Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Terrain The resort is divided into 2 interlinking mountains; Rendezvous Mountain and Apres Vous Mountain. Ski Jackson Hole Wyoming Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole Rendezvous Mountain has a continuos vertical rise of 4,139 feet, and is an experts heaven with endless steeps, powder filled open bowls, chutes, gullies, cliffs, ridges and trees. The best powder runs at Jackson Hole are from the summit down Rendezvous Bowl to the bottom of the Hoback chutes, an awesome verticle drop! Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Now that the Aerial Tram has closed (and will be replaced in 2008 with a larger faster version) snow riders catch the Bridger Gondola up from Teton Village and make there way to the East Ridge Chairlift, located at the top of the Sublette Chairlift to access the summit. Jackson Hole Mountain ResortAdvanced Skiing and Snowboarding Be warned once at the top there is no easy way down, some go right and chose the wide, very steep Rendezvous Bowl whilst others go left to the experts only Corbett’s Couloir. Corbett’s Couloir is the ultimate adrenaline rush for speed and powder junkies. It is one of the toughest and steepest chutes in America. Apres Vous Mountain at Jackson Hole Apres Vous Mountain is the tamer of the 2 mountains with the majority of Jackon Hole's groomed intermediate trails found there, as well as the Casper Bowl and Saratoga Bowl. The black diamond Casper Bowl, is a deep linking bowl between Rendezvous and Apres Vous Mountains with great treed terrain found under the Casper Chairlift area. In windy conditions the Saratoga Bowl remains sheltered and is suitable for competent intermediates as well as advanced skiers and snowboarders. Intermediate Skiing and Snowboarding While Jackson Hole is best suited for experts and those seeking extreme powder adventures, intermediates are not forgotten. There are linked groomed trails covering most of the resort enabling intermediates to explore. The constant steeps and challenging terrain ensure that your ski and snowboard level can only improve. Beginner Skiing and Snowboarding Apres Vous Mountain's lower slopes house gentle sheltered beginner trails excellent for learning. The Mountain Sports School at Jackson Hole have professional instructors for all ages and ability levels. Jackson Hole Snowcat Skiing and Snowboarding Snowcat skiing and snowboarding is available at Angle Mountain where over 750 acres of deep powder, steeps and trees await! Jackson Hole Halfpipe and Terrain Park at For the days that it doesn’t snow there is a superpipe and terrain park at Jackson Hole however with so much natural terrain they don’t get too much use! Jackson Hole Accommodation Visitors to Jackson Hole can chose to either stay slope side at Teton Village or downtown at the cowboy town of Jackson. Accommodation at Teton Village Teton Village has slope side accommodation ranging from 5 star hotels, condominiums and apartments to basic hostel accommodation. The Inn at Jackson Hole is a full service hotel with an outdoor heated pool and 2 fine dining restaurants, Masa Sushi and Vertical. The Snake River Lodge & Spa is one of the most luxurious places to stay featuring king beds in every room and is home to the Gamefish restaurant serving top regional foods. The Village Center Inn, located next to the Aerial Tram, has more affordable lodging in small fully equipped apartments while the cheapest accommodation is found at the friendly, family run HostelX featuring rooms with 4 beds (king rooms also available) and private bathrooms. Not all of the accommodation is ski in ski out, most of the rental apartments are a short walk from the base area. There is a free shuttle bus that runs during the day around the village to take to to and from the base area. Accommodation at Jackson The relaxed friendly town of Jackson is a 15 minute bus trip from Teton Village and offers a lot more accommodation, shops and restaurants for all levels of budget. Some hotels offer shuttle services to and from Teton Village otherwise the regular bus costing a couple of dollars each way can be caught throughout the day and into the evenings. The Alpine House Inn and Spa is a comfortable bed and breakfast located centrally in town which offers great value for money deals throughout the season. The Pony Express West Motel has cheap rooms and a heated pool. The Elk Country Inn has log cabins and family units at economicalprices and is just 4 blocks from the Town Square. On the other end of the scale the historic Wort Hotel combines luxury and exceptional service in large deluxe rooms. Nightlife at Jackson Jackson has a vibrant nightlife, the buzzing Silver Dollar Bar is an institution with links back to the Wild West. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is frequented by the local cowboys and has a much used, and very worn, dance floor! One of the most popular bars is the Log Cabin Saloon, spread over 2 levels with pool tables, lots of seating and frequent live bands and is packed full on a regular basis. Nightlife at Teton Village The nightlife is a little restricted with limited restaurants and bars to chose from, the majority being at the town of Jackson. Nick Wilson's Cowboy Cafe is the après ski spot in the village to have a drink and snack on some buffalo wings and pizza slices. The Mangy Moose and Alpenhof bars have live bands and dancing continuing late into the night. Shopping at Jackson Hole Unique souvenir shops, art galleries, museums, clothing stores and, ski and snowboard equipment shops line the streets of Jackson. Jackson Hole Resort Store has all the Jackson Hole logo gear you could want from t- shirts to posters! Shopping at Teton Village Teton Village is a compact village offering basic necessities and a few ski and snowboard stores, Jackson Hole Sports provides all the rental and retail equipment you will need while Hole in the Wall caters specifically to snowboarders with the latest gear and equipment on offer. Restaurants at Jackson Hole Restaurants vary from great tasty burger shops, Chinese, American, Mexican, French, Italian, Japanese to fast food and takeaway. The Snake River Brewing Company takes great pride in brewing its own microbrews so it is only fare to stop for a taste test and a meal in their restaurant, you will not be disappointed. The Gun Barrel Steak and Game House specialise in mesquite grilled steaks and game as well as having an extensive wine list. Nani's Genuine Pasta House has delicious regional Italian cuisine and an old country atmosphere. Other Acivites at Jackson Hole Take a day off to explore Yellowstone National Park on a guided snowmobile tour, go for a dog sleigh ride, ice skating, snow shoeing or snow kite boarding. Half day and full day wildlife viewing expeditions are also available in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. New for 2006/2007 at Jackson Hole The Aerial Tram is closing in September 2006 after 40 years of service. Resort Management decided that it is better to close before any safety concerns arise. It will be replaced by a larger, faster version. The new Aerial Tram will carry 100 passengers per trip making the overall hourly passenger transfer from base to top station 600 passengers. It is expected to be operating by December 2008. Meanwhile a new double chair "East Ridge" will transport snowriders directly to the summit while the Tram is not operational. The base terminal is at the top of the "Sublette" chair and the 5 minute ride ends at the top of Rendezvous Mountain. After the new Tram is operational the chair is able to be moved elsewhere if required. New triple chair “Sweetwater” which will link beginner terrain to intermediate terrain at mid- mountain level. Creating a gradual transition from green slopes to blues. The Base terminal is located at the top of Eagle’s Rest lift with the top terminal up slope from the Casper lift and restaurant. Getting to Jackson Hole Jackson Hole is 90 miles from Idaho Falls, Idaho, 200 miles from Rock Springs, Wyoming and 307 miles from Salt Lake City Utah. Return shuttle buses are available from Salt Lake City Airport, taking approximately 5 hours. By air connecting flights into Jackson Airport, 10 miles from the town of Jackson, are available throughout the country. | ||
